TALENTED LITTLE WONDER

It was a special occasion for Bharatanatya Kalalaya as it marked the 50th Arangetram programme and the dancer was the little ten year old wonder Varsha Sundar. Varsha performed with lot of excitement and enthusiasm at the Manik Sabhagriha in Bandra. Varsha Sundar is the talented disciple of Guru Geeta Vekateshwar who is an accomplished exponent and heads the dance academy - Bharatanatya Kalalaya. It was amazing to watch little Varsha dance to heart's content, winning the applause from the packed audience. Varsha commenced her sparkling performance with the traditional invocatory number and followed it with the Khamas Shiva Padam, a composition by Papanasam Sivan extolling the glory and the power of the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva in the Chidambaram temple. The Devi Padam was unusual for its content in which the dancer asks the goddess as to whether she is a toy in her hands?. TRIBUTES TO A GREAT MAESTRO

Rashtriya Sanskritik Mitra Mandal, Chembur, celebrated thier annual gurupoornima utsav  at Afac High School Auditorium. In its presentation Adaranjali 2017, students performed classical music and dance as a mark of tribute to Tabla maestro and mentor.  late   Taalmani Pandit Brijraj Mishra. . Birju Bhaiya, as he was popularly known, was an unsung hero who received his formal training in classical dance from Acharya Sukhdev Maharaj, Acharya Pande Maharaj and Acharya Chaube Maharaj. Having received training in Tabala by Pandit Sharada Sahayaji, he mastered both the art forms in an exemplary manner. Although he was trained in Kathak dance of the Benaras Gharana he later went on to excel in playing the Tabla. DANCING FOR THE GODDESS

As part of the Shri Sarada Navaratri Mohotsavam, the South Indian Bhajana Samaj  and Shree Pavitra Arts Academy presented the Bharata Natyam performance by accomplished exponent Nandhini Ashok and her disciples at the Ram Mandir premises in Matunga. It was pleasing to watch the dancers dancing with devotion and involvement. Shree Pavitra Arts Academy(Bandra) has been established by Guru Nandhini Ashok with the intention of promoting and propagating classical arts like Bharata Natyam. Over the years, several young aspirants have learnt Bharata Natyam The performance commenced with the invocatory numbers. THe number "Kamakshi" interpreted the varied aspects of the goddess Parvati.
